In 1918 an all-new interior was constructed
by noted local architect
Clarke Waggamon, and the house was "modernized" with early
20th century furnishings, to reflect the tastes of that "modern"
time. In 1986 your host, Paul Rhodes, restored and redecorated
the interior to reflect the building's original era. Every
level of the four-story Inn holds antique Beaux
Arts furniture, oriental rugs, polished wood floors, painted
murals, and selections from Paul's extensive art collection.
This is a house in which it is important to look up as well,
because several of the rooms have painted scenes on the ceilings.
Most notable is the continuous mural of birds and foliage
flying and climbing up the undersides of the stairs. |
