The Dupont Circle Historic District marks the rise and the
historical remnants of the post-Civil War Robber Barons. Most
of the luxurious town
homes in the district were built in the 1880s, as was Inn
Washington. The Inn has a Federal-style brick and stone façade,
and originally had its kitchen on the ground floor (now home
to the Office). In keeping with the standards of wealth and
taste at that time, the house was most likely furnished with
18th century antiques and oriental rugs over the polished
wood floors. That original elegance declined as the times
and the city changed, but history and tastes have conspired
to bring back those times and styles again. Today, Dupont
Circle and nearby Georgetown are among the most desirable
residential neighborhoods in DC. |
